Slimming and fast food don’t seem to go together in the same sentence, yet most of the fast food restaurants now offer items on their menus that can help you stay on track with your diet.  When I started on my journey to lose weight I had to steer clear of all fast food restaurants because they were definitely a weakness of mine. On my own it wasn’t so hard to avoid fast food but I have four kids at home none of which are dieting. Most of the times as I took them out for fast food I would, myself, only sip on a cup of water.   It was really hard but I was determined and most of the time I was able to stay on course. Things are looking up now; I can dine at a lot of my favorite fast food restaurants without all the guilt. Below is a look at some of the choices I made at Burger King, Wendy’s, and McDonalds and also the better choices I’m making today.

McDonalds:

This was a favorite of mine and I easily dined here 4-5 times a week.

Then:

Large fries          560 calories

Big Mac                 540 calories

Orange drink

large                       350 calories

Total                     1450 calories

Now:

Pesto Grilled

Chicken mcmini     280 calories

Small fries               220 calories

Diet coke                      0 calories

_________________________

Total 500 calories

Although I’m still not thrilled with the 21grams of fat for the entire meal, as you can see I have more than halved the calories.  This is still good for an occasional treat.

There are also other items on their menu with low calories here are a few:

Breakfast Burrito   300 calories

Egg Mcmuffin          280 calories

Mediterranean

Salad                           100 calories

Caesar salad

With chicken           340 calories

Cheeseburger         300 calories

Spicy Thai

Chicken                     260 calories

Strawberry

Sundae                     290 calories

It’s always important to check the calorie and fat information before a purchase.  Items like the grilled chicken sandwich are a whopping 500 calories.  You might be fooled by the word grilled but it still has a total of 21 grams of fat.

Burger King

Burger King is a close second and no one can come close to the whopper but boy have things changed for the good.  What encourages me about their restaurant is that there is a big display on the wall of the foods nutritional facts.

Then:

Whopper w/ Cheese:  790 calories

Large fanta orange     234 calories

Drink

Large fries                      530 calories
