When I started running for fitness., I used my trusty old sports watch to take track of my time that I am on the road. I was also pretty content with using it for doing my speed training. I wasn’t at all concerned with the distance that I did. I was just happy that I was able to finish running straight for 30 minutes and sometimes even for an hour.
I then started joining 5K and 10K races almost every other weekend. And wanted to beat my own time every time I reach the finish line. And then I thought of training for a 21K. And I looked at my watch and I knew I needed something else to help me reach my goal.
I sought advice from my hardcore running friends and of course read reviews from the internet. And I fell in love with the Garmin Forerunner 305. I excitedly opened the box as soon as the UPS man dropped it off. I ordered mine online.
The Garmin Forerunner 305 came with a chest strap, charger and a CD software that you can use to track your progress. After it was fully charged and after setting up the software. I ran out with it on the same day. The Forerunner 305 looked and felt like a laptop attached to my wrist. It was quite BIG and HEAVY… But after a while I got used to the weight.
It was amazing how I can actually see the distance, time and heart rate throughout my run. It instantly gives you information on how well you did, and gives you a chance to improve your workout over time. The Garmin Forerunner can be used for Biking as well, although you have to buy an additional accessory for your bike to sync with it seamlessly.
You can even create your personal workout by setting it by pace, by distance or even by your target heart rate zones. And I have mentioned that it looks quite big than the other Garmin Forerunner models, but it was advantage for me, since my eyesight is not as reliable as it was before. Seeing the big numbers on the screen was heaven-sent on my part.
The buttons were also easy to use. Not too big and not too small, just right for my fingers to play around with.
Aside from tracking your progress on your own computer, you can also upload your workouts online. And see the exact route you took, what your heart rate at a certain location and you can pin-point the elevations where you might have had a hard time on.
The Garmin Forerunner 305 is not the latest in Garmin’s line for Forerunners, but it certainly is very worth the buy. And I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to improve their performance.
