Reebok Core Board

The Reebok Core Board is an incredibly functional device for a wide assortment of exercises.  The board is constantly moving in three directions; tilting, twisting, and torquing in response to the bodies’ movements.  The instability of the board forces the core muscles of the body to work just to create stability in addition to whatever exercise is being performed.  The Reebok Core Board sells for around $200, so I choose to use the ones at the gym instead of purchasing my own.  It would be a nice addition for anyone with a home gym, especially if there isn’t one at your particular membership gym.

The Reebok Core Board has a wide surface making it really convenient for squats.  Again, the body is both working to stabilize itself on the wobbly board while at the same time firing the muscles required for the squat.  I have used a Bosu Balance Ball and find I like the Core Board better because I feel a little safer.  The curved surface of the Bosu Ball (since it’s essentially half of a physio ball on a flat base) makes exercises that require a wide stance (like squatting) more awkward.  And there have been cases where I felt like I was going to fall over because my feet were too close to the side of the Bosu Ball and thus at a strange angle.

I also like to stand on the Reebok Core Trainer when performing upper body resistance exercises for shoulders and biceps.  Just standing during a series of arm raises with weights isn’t doing anything for the lower body.  But when these exercises are performed while standing on an unstable surface like the Reebok Core Trainer, it’s working the core as well as the lower body.  This allows for a more efficient workout, especially for those who are strapped for time.  There are so many different exercises that can be performed on the Reebok Core Board and that’s why it’s a favorite of mine.  From pushups to squats to shoulder raises to plank pose to an assortment of stretches and countless more, this board is a great way to get a total body workout.

The only dislikes I have are that the size and weight makes it more difficult to lug around the gym.   I find when I’m there at peak hours, space is very limited and sometimes the only available space is a small one tucked in a corner.  Dragging the Reebok Core Board to the space can sometimes be a problem.  The Bosu Ball is a bit lighter and easier to maneuver.  My other dislike of the Reebok Core Board is the cost.  Relying on a gym to have a Core Board and for the Core Board to be available for use when I want to use it can be problematic.  But the cost of approximately $200 is also problematic for me, thus I do not have my own at home.  Not to mention that space at my house is limited as well so I don’t know where I would store the Board.

But for those that aren’t scared by the price or storage needs, this is a great piece of equipment to have in your home.  Not only can you take advantage of a plethora of exercises but also you could always stand on the board while watching your favorite television shows and fire up those core muscles .
