Ways to Rev up the Metabolism:
- Drink more water. Drinking more water (6-8 glasses/daily) increases our metabolic rate. John Acquaviva, PhD, says that water is our most important nutrient and the liver fails to function properly when it lacks water.
- Do Strength Training. Susan L. Burke, MS, RD/LD, CDE, says that “muscle is more metabolically active than fat is. She goes on to say that replacing fat with lean muscle will help with burning calories and increasing the metabolism.
- Do Aerobic Exercise. It is recommended by Susan Burke to do at least 60 minutes of aerobic exercise to build up the metabolism.
- Drinking Green Tea. Study on those that consume green tea has shown that it increases the metabolism.]
- Eat Healthy. Eat 6 small meals a day that are abundant in lean protein. Also, eat five servings of fruit and vegetables. Eating sensibly will help you avoid starvation mode.
Staying active, eating and drinking properly is definitely the way to go when wanting to speed up your metabolism. It’s important to note than whenever there is a desire to lose weight or rev up the metabolism, an action or moving of the body should be involved. Fad diets, diet tricks, and extreme calorie cutting only prove to damage our system and discourage our attempts to get healthy. It’s important to seek the counsel of a physician before starting a physical fitness program or supplement usage.
